Below I'll detail what I expect from my setting and include brief descriptions of campaigns.
For the most part, I imagine this game will feature more roleplay than combat. I'll be experimenting with the combat style as we play, but I want to make violence come with a price. Careful planning, alternative routes and creative thinking should be just as viable as stabbing people with swords! All that said, I'll be trying to make the combat fast-paced and fluid to keep it interesting and exciting if we do have to take that route.
I want this to be a sandbox world where players can interact with and make real changes. Who knows, following certain actions someone might be the reason there's a sign outside the eternal pit not to taunt the cave demons. I'm also going to keep a calendar going (once I can figure out how
) and will keep a running tab on what players in various campaigns are up to with it.
I also want to allow players to settle down, found bases, societies, start wars, end them, and even found nations if that happens to occur. It's a roleplaying game, we're not bound by boring things like feasibility!
A new beginning follows a small band of heroes after their escape from imprisonment as they wander into the world at large. Players here will start off just inside the borders of Belerest a union of various races, all banded together to fend off the interests of meaner kingdoms and peoples. Practically everyone that isn't naturally hostile to the topsiders will have a home in New Maelbyrn
